Re, your original point, that the pretty speeches won't mean crap when he fails to deliver, you can't possibly know right now whether or not he will fail to deliver, (signs point to an excellent start judging by who he is surrounding himself with and early plans), and yeah, of course most people are fucking retarded and have ridiculous expectations, this is America after all, but that doesn't mean that intelligent people like myself and many others can't recognize the enormous potential of a man who is very fucking capable, very serious, and probably one of the finer presidential prospects we've had in years. Pretty speeches are where you start. Pretty speeches inspire people and motivate them, in dire times. Nothing George Bush has said in the last 4 years has done a thing for anyone, in reassurance, and in confidence, but everyone can get behind Obama because of that confidence that he inspires, and that is a good fucking place to start in the face of such disastrous situations.

There's no doubt in my mind that in 4 months the average Joe who was crying at the inauguration over Jesus is going to be like "wheres mah gad damn stimulus" and wondering why we don't live in a Utopia already. But the rest of us who actually have a brain will be able to more accurately measure his success, and parrying the insinuation that Obama is all talk and no substance is absurd at this point. He has demonstrated enormous substance to those in the know, and to people who follow politics and world affairs. The question is, is his ambition great enough to really implement the types of grandiose measures that are going to make a difference long after his term(s) end, and get the country back on track.

If I agreed with you more than I do now, I'd probably become American.

But I'd rather get rid of a nationality than acquire a new one

you make some good points in that little monologue. Time will tell. To the point made above, what's your take on Geithner being appointed to Sec. of Treasury and blaming his $42,000 in taxes he never paid on his inability to navagate Turbo Tax? Would you agree that, because the Treasury Secretary essentially runs the IRS, perhaps there should be a different appointment made for this position??

I think you're absolutely right. People's skepticism of Obama gets in the way of the fact that they have no idea who else could do this job. He has only been in office for one day, and he's made his entire government transparent, and is meeting with Iraq generals tomorrow to look at an exit strategy. What else is he supposed to be doing, curing cancer?

Koresh instilled confidence in a lot of people, too. I'm missing the logic in your argument. Other than being a great public speaker with an obvious ability to persuade, what has Obama accomplished in his political career that would make you believe he'll be a good president?

I haven't read the specifics of that, and if that really is his defense, it is pretty stupid (though I have trouble with turbo tax myself lol), but he has paid all of it back.

I don't know enough about Geithner to maker a judgement on that, I agree that it does seem iffy.

great public speaker? apparently people haven't heard him when he doesn't have a pre-written speech or a teleprompter. he rivals stuttering john when met with a tough question and then he doesn't answer it. the cult of obama is a symbol of just how powerful the media is and why it needs to be stopped.
