This bit is incorrect. Li-ion batteries do not experience a memory effect. You do not have to discharge them all the way before charging.
This was the problem with old Ni-Cd Nickel Cadmium batteries.
Li-ion batteries HATE heat. Just keep the devices cool or battery life will suffer dramatically. It is also recommended that you do not store devices at 100% charge. It is better to keep them at 60% or so for storage.
Ahh I was unaware of that. Thanks!
I knew about the heat thing though. That is bad for ANY battery.

were you unaware of this too?
it's a little card that slides under your sim card, unlocking your phone

Should I stress PERMANENT?
I was aware of those solutions. This stuff is old news. but that is not a permanent unlock solution.
He ended up getting the G1

The iPhone family plan I need is $199 a month. Remember, I was gonna get TWO iPhones, not one.
$109.99 - 2100 Family Minutes
$30 - Unlimited Family Messaging
$30 - Data Plan on iPhone 1
$30 - Data Plan on iPhone 2
---------------------------------
$199.99 - Total
Even if I changed my family minutes to 1400 min a month, my total would be $179.99. The only way my bill would be less than a $100 a month would be if I didn't get any minutes at all.

Anyhow, I ended up getting the G1. So far I love it. I can pretty much do almost anything the iPhone does, on the G1. There's even apps that do the text messaging using an interface similar to the iPhone. Hehehe
There's two draw backs... Lack of Games & Apps. There's lots of apps & games but not nearly as many as the iPhone. The MP3 Player interface is UGLY as fuck, but I'm sure I'll be able to download a better one. Hehehe
On the upside, I love the fact that I can stream LIVE internet broadcasts. So goodbye radio. Now my choices are endless. I can listen to DI or Proton Radio on my car!!! hehe
The GPS ROCKS!!!! Hehehe I tried it last night and it was awesome!
The interface is not the best, but it's not that bad either. It's totally customisable.
So far, it hasn't dissapointed me!!!

hmmmm...it's tempting to try this since I only need to use another SIM card for a short period of time while in Europe. The Lebara network isn't listed though, and far as I know it provides prepaid voice calls only (no data). The "overlay SIM card" site also says that you have to cut a small part of your original SIM card off, so "no modification necessary" isn't totally accurate.
Think I'll just use my iPhone without any SIM card at all on wifi networks and use my Lebara SIM card with my dinosaur Siemens A70 phone. That should give me calls back to the US for 4.5 cents a minute and free internet wherever I can find wifi, not a bad combination.
If anyone has actually done this, let me know though!

I had my G1 for less than 24hrs and I'm already looking into hacks for it! hahaha
Anyone know how to adjust the keyboard brightness?
Hehe
I just read that the G1 DOES Support Multi-Touch. But it's a hidden feature. However, there's tons of tutorials online that show you how to unlock it! hehe
The manager at the T-Mobile store was showing me some hacks. He changed my phone to always be on 3G by default instead of the phone choosing the strongest signal. But he wouldn't give me the hack, he did it for me. I wanna do that to my GF's G1 too!!!
He told me there was a hack for the keyboard brightness. Anyone know it?

That's what I thought too...I did read that they should be run down to about 10% once a month, but that's just to reset the battery indicator. Some article that I read also said to store them at 40% charge (outside the device if possible), but with those little battery level indicator displays, I'm sure that half charged is close enough!

The G1 is known as the "Dream". If there's a hack worth knowing it's on there. The multitouch thing is a strange one. Basically the screen is capacitance based (like iphone) so technically it can do it but there is no support in the os. It will take more than a hack - basically an addition to the OS or a another program. Check XDA....
@in2muzikk - You're not a "typical" plan or customer on at&t at $75 per month. In fact, without the added extras (and those are really necessities anyway) that's probably the cheapest plan AT&T do. I go through 450 minutes in about 2 weeks, and so do most people I know. The average cost for an AT&T customer per month is $95 pre tax (and that's a figure put out by them so I reckon it's actually a bit higher), which is more than twice the cost to their other non-iphone customers.
The turbosim iphone unlock hack (as it was know when it first came out) is a crap solution. For any hacks to the iphone, All apple has to do is release a firmware update and your fucked until someone gets a temporary hack out again, which apple can then defeat again quickly.
@ben - yeah, forgot about the touch pro (which is a great phone) but I didn't upgrade to it as it was only a marginal improvement over my kaiser for $600! it had no major changes (just bit more ram, slightly better screen etc.) apart from the tv out built in, which could actually be done with the kaiser anyway, and the faster processor was just eaten up by the heavier UI.
Basically may take is this on the provider available here:
T-Mobile - cheapest plans of all the carriers but poor range of phones (in general, excluding the g1) horrible call quality, most limited reception network and terrible customer service.
AT&T - most expensive plans of all carriers, good phone range, good reception network, bad customer service, decent call quality.
Verizon - second cheapest plans next to T-mob, best call quality, good network coverage, good phone range, good customer service.
The only one I don' know about is Sprint - anyone care to give their 2c? I also heard they are in danger of going out of business or getting swallowed by one of the other big boys.....
