There's very few dj's I would pay over $15 to see at any local venue.

Most of the artists I follow don't cost that much to see, and ironically they're a lot more talented than the 'big time' headliners these days.

DJs are definitely sensitive to what's going on in the global economy, as Josh WInk shares here in his Beatportal Blog:

"The economy and recession seem to be a global concern and happily, is openly talked about in our industry, especially at dinners. I’ve noticed that there seems to always be talk of a decline in attendance at parties, which is a big concern as this is one of our livelihoods. People can buy music online, but we need people in the clubs and venues to support the scene! "

Booking a DJ is way more complicated than one might think. Most "big" DJs are represented by agencies like Excession, AM Only, Bullitt, Ornadel Management, etc....Now these agencies are most clever. If a club like MOS wanted let's say Tiesto using his agency AM Only, it is kind of an unwritten rule that MOS also use some of their lesser known DJs for future club nights or run the risk of never being able to book Tiesto again. And sure, booking fees may be slightly less due to the economy with both DJs looking for more work and clubs looking to cut costs but it is never an easy task. Some borderline DJs that shall remain nameless have all kinds of strange requests put into their riders (special hotels, massive amounts of liquor, DJ booth requirements, food requests, etc) that it would be easier to pay them more. One DJ we booked actually complained that the Tribeca Grand was an unsuitable hotel and demanded a room in his favorite hotel The Mercer at the last fucking minute.

But trust me, the big guys get PAID. I keep using him as an example but Tiesto was paid 90k to play Avalon Boston, NYC, and Hollywood over the course of 3 days. Not bad for a weekend's work.
