Hardware

Pros : Sounds great right out of the box.
Any serious production studio I'VE seen
usually includes mostly hardware and a little
software, usually for sequencing or wave editing,
e.g Sound Forge, Cubase etc. (Check out AVB's site
and click on the virtual tour of his studio.)

Cons : Expensive (but can be resold later maybe)

Software

Pros : Cheap (Download full torrent and serial crack)
j/k Can sound great if you know how to program
them.

Cons : Steep learning curve, although knowledge of one suite
can carry over and apply to other programs, many features
work in different ways, and can be confusing.
Also, software compatibility with midi controllers and
other hardware can encourage you to throw your computer
at the wall or out of the window.

Hardware will soon be phased out.

No one cares about hardware anymore cept people who believe it will make them pro [almost everyone on this forum who think its so awesome]..or die hard fans. Both are a tiny minority. You can look at nearly every other industry, just extrapolate. Hardware will be dead in 2020.

Sure it will. We have Software DAWs. The only thing left really for hardware is synths and midi controllers and speakers/headphones. Everything else is software. And the only reason we still have hardware synths is because their sound is still popular to some. But the next generation of musicians won't have that. They won't have the love for hardware that some of our old school musicians have. Because One, software synths are cheaper, and is likely what most will start with. And two, because of that the software sound will grow on them.

And with that mvoement, all the companies will liekly follow. They follow the money.

I'm not bashing hardware, alot of it is spiffy, but it is all in a dying breed. I for one, don't have any attachment what so ever to hardware, and any sound on hardware can be made close enough for my taste. I don't need a Virus, because I have Z3ta, and that is close enough. That is the mentality of nearly everyone I know who is a musician.

Does anyone here work at a hardware store [mucial hardware] Maby they could give us some stats one, of all thier products, what gets sold most. I have a feeling it won't be hardware synths.

Hardware:
Pros: Adds an assload of analog
Cons: You can't use it to rip the vocals out of commercial tracks

Software:
Pros: You can get it on the internet for free
Cons: You'll never be taken seriously as a producer, ever

Wow. That has to be the most idiotic statement I've ever read on this forum. I realize that you're probably a clueless 17-year old newb with zero real-life music experience and absolutely no sense of anything outside your tiny little home studio trance world, so I'll cut you some slack. But, there are millions of producers and real live musicians out there that will be playing hardware instruments in the studio as well as in live performances well beyond 2020. Statements like yours destroy your credibility and show what a naive little fool you are. My advice to you is to show some humility and think about how big the world around you is and how little you know about the music industry before making such assanine statements. People may actually start to respect you for your opinions.

Lol. You give the electronic music world too much credit. You probably think trance today is good.

Thank you for proving my point. You're obviously too naive to comprehend that there is a vast world of musicians outside the world of electronica who use hardware. Keep digging that hole in your crediblity.

Its not just about the sound, but its the way of working too that makes them popular, you can just sit down with it and jam at any time.
And having a physical instrument like that can get you to be more creative than just clicking on the mouse.
