Oh I'm sorry, I forgot that your extensive experience as a nursing student makes you almost as much of an expert on medical and epidemiological research as my prior experience in electrical engineering makes me on skyscraper construction. In other words, zilch. I presume you've graduated by now, but still, fuck right off.
I've never worked or studied in the dentistry field either, but I know that brushing my teeth prevents cavities and flossing helps prevent gingivitis. It's not that hard to look up information that's in the public domain and ask a professional (or several) when in doubt.
A study that was not an actual independent study, but mainly combined the results of a bunch of other studies. No adequate controls, and deemed highly suspect by other researchers in the field (as the linked article itself mentions, although I already knew about this study from other sources). So yes, it was "peer reviewed", but the reviews themselves were not overwhelmingly positive.
Here are several more peer-reviewed studies that found it to have NO effect:
University of Virginia Medical School
National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine
University of Wisconsin
University of Washington (specific to children)
Medical University of South Carolina
And there was another one in Germany that I can't seem to find. Probably more that I don't even know about.
I'll also note for the record that a number of those studies linked above mention allergic reactions - for example, the one done on children reports a high incidence of rashes. Some critics complain that the dosages in those studies were too low, but when cast against the increased incidence of side-effects, those criticisms don't seem to hold much water.

So fine, you folks think I'm full of shit, go ahead and keep wasting your money on a herb that was never even used historically as a cold medicine (some people thought it was useful for treating asthma). I just want to make it crystal clear that I'm not making any of this up.
