Ah, I knew there was a significance to those two, thanks for clearing that up. Looking back, it was all so obvious. The monster with the long horns (Alexander?) was part of Max's feeling that nobody ever noticed him or listened to him, Ira and Judith sort of the Yin/Yang of his personality, Judith being the more brash/harsh one and Ira being the relaxed happy one. Douglas represented his loyalty to people, especially to his parents (K.W. and Carol). Very intriguing movie, it was very well done, I just thought it was so dark and depressing that it was hard to enjoy the end.
