I watched an Interview with Oakie the other day on Uk Play (british cable channel), and the subject of money came up. Basically he gets a lot of offers to DJ all around the world, and if all the offers were put together he could DJ in 8/9 venues every saturday night. This just isn't possible, so he checks things out, asks other DJ's what the atmosphere and things are like, and then makes a decision, and often goes for the Venue which is offering less money. He plays lots of venues for next to nothing (the one in the desert, can't remember what it's called, he did that for free), and he played in a small town in the US for $800, because one of his fans wrote to him cos he never plays anywhere near, so he went and played in the local club, and he'd been offered a 100 times that amount to play somewhere else in the US. He's making a living, doing what he loves, making a hell of a lot of money, but he's making his fans happy. So less of the bashing

wow...oakie is quite a generous guy...
i would like to sit down and talk to him myself...just to see what his personality is like.

ok first thing id like to add is that Oakenfold is NOT selling out. THe way Music gets on the big time here with with money and MTV. ITs a STUPID system but its the only way to get noticed in the US. Im SOOO happy he is getting more publicity. who else would u want to pop up from the trance scene and have the balls to represent your crowd? the man himself who made it big in europe of course. Here we have no , love parades, NEC, or creamfields. but with this push oakenfold is doing, we may just have that. I believe he wants more of the top DJs to follow him too, so that trance is not just a underground nocturnal image that many people dont understand. ;p i have to try to go through so much crap when im jamming to trance and everyone is like "WTF its just the same thing over and over." they dont understand i hear so much more. and mabey with oakie comming in the big time people can finally feel the beat and trance will take over this rap crap thats been here for way to long.

Yes, Fanyen brings up some excellent points. I know some people thing trance going into the mainstream would be this horrible thing. But wouldn't it be great if everyone could enjoy and understand it the same way us TA's do? Oakenfold has a chance to do this for us. I don't anyone else really does. Hate him for that? I think not!

Well i wouldn't particularly enjoy it if it went total pop because I don't wanna see a bunch of airhead Britney Spears/N'sync fans tapping their toes to trance. It would be a nightmare...I would have to start listening to something different if that happened. I like it being underground...it makes me feel more unique listening to something not top 40 related.
Not to mention trance is NOT mainstream material. Maybe some vocal tracks are but when something goes pop it's gotta be real catchy...and real cheesy like most pop songs are. But kids like something they can sing along to...it can't be entirely instrumental. This may sound very sexist of me but don't take it wrong...women are song driven. Most women need lyrics and singing in their music in order to enjoy it...that's why TA.com is mostly male dominated.
So to some it up there is no WAY that trance could be mainstream. And as for Oakey...he's doing a brilliant thing. He's not a sellout he works his ass off. Not to mention he's a great DJ. He's very musically talented too.
The End of my speech

Oakenfold LOL

is a businessman

and a good one at that.

he is NOT a very good dj

and he is NOT a pioneer

people who say this make me laugh...

yeh hes done his bit for the scene BUT just because he opened the UK's eyes to 'trance' dont mean fuck all... it was already there... Oakey got into it about 10 years late. The real pioneering was done in Germany by artists like Sven Vath following on from Kraftwerk.

Oakey has done his bit...but he is so overrated its not funny!

*and he still cant even beatmatch!

He IS a pioneer, he brought house music to the UK, from his stay in New York in the late seventies, early eighties. You wouldn't be listening to dance music of this quality if he hadn't opened the UK's eyes to it...you clearly don't know what your talking about
Can't even beatmatch my arse.....have you seen who you have in your sig?? FFS at the NEC in april he doublebeated for an hour and a half...so there

The quality in his mixes, the tracklistings, the originality, the atmosphere he creates are outstanding. His productions are quality again, his remixes are excellent, in the time that he's been in the business he's very rarely made a bad tune. Also he's not just stuck to one genre, he's flowed between styles with relative ease, something which other DJ's haven't done as easily. He's got real talent at what he does, and succeeds at whatever he tries his hand at next, and because he changes his style so often, u never get bored of him
