Today, I couldn't get work done (and i work on the 14th floor of my building) because people were protesting 'genocide' in Sri Lanka. Seriously, what the hell is yelling "what do we want, when do we want it!!" going to do to end their claims of genocide in Sri Lanka? I seriously doubt that BS even raised consequential awareness for their causes. It really just makes people who are inconvenienced mad.

Protestors suck because of the way they go about it and the causes for which they are protesting (which in my view are pretty stupid today). I wouldn't have a problem with protestors or protests if the people protesting were doing it for something that would further a real social need and if the protest had some effect on the cause for which they were protesting.

It's really easy for suburbanites to say protesting is blah blah blah when they aren't faced with protestors inconveniencing their lives on a normal basis. I deal with this stupid crap way too often (at least 6 or 7 times a year - it's unbelievably annoying). Oh yeah, and when Bush was in power there was always a group of nutjobs protesting something war related (or 9/11 related) right outside one of my train stations (holding up the flow of people).

Come live and work in NY or DC and I'm sure you'll feel a little differently when protesting isn't just some abstract concept.

This is so true.

There's nothing wrong with the spirit of protest, but there are a lot more productive ways to get your point across than holding a sign and yelling at innocent passers-by. And ffs, it's an unspoken rule that you do not even talk on a Metro in the morning, and these people try to start a chant? If your issue ever comes to a vote, I'm voting against you just for pissing me off.

I'd go so far as to say that not a single mind has ever been changed by a protest. It's one thing to let the government know you disagree with their actions. It's quite another to strut around and gleefully label anyone not joining your protest as an "Obamatard" or some other equally dumb and unproductive label.

edit: none of that rant was targeted at jerz, obviously.

Obviously there is a problem with protesting. Its ok to protest if you are a Liberal but any other doing from another party is annoying even if it is bipartisan like these events were. There is definitly some hypocrisy going on here.

The protest today outside my building in times square was a bunch of liberal nutjobs. I hate them! The idiots throwing perfectly good lipton tea bags in buckets are conserative tards. I hate them too! I couldn't give a fuck about the ideology to which the protestors subscribe, they all suck! That is, unless the protesting is a manifestation of some real social unrest because of inequalities.

As Leb said, they are so many better ways to get your point across than bothering people who have real things to do during the day.

What? I'm pretty sure I specifically said I don't care what the cause is, protesting doesn't work because it's annoying.

Lets say all the Spanish descents and thier illegal family members get and itch up thier assess and protest in our streets again. "Not like illegals have the right to protest anyway". Where were the Lefties on that shit? Exactly.

Look son, I'm sorry you've been called annoying for being a protester, but I can assure you that liberal protesters are almost as annoying as you are.

you didn't have to get off your couch to hear what they were going to say. I'm sure Hannity and Beck would have covered (and glorified) every aspect of the protests, and MSNBC would have covered the opposite side of it trying to disprove every claim made by those idiots.
