My one pot is completely destroyed

If you get some wire mesh screen you could put that over the dirt in the pots, then maybe cover the mesh a bit so it doesn't show. Next-door to me a lady is feeding squirrels bags of peanuts in the shell that the squirrels are too full to eat, so they stash them in my pots. They make a big mess scattering the dirt.

BTW my pots have tomatoes, peppers, basil, oregano (pizza!), cilantro (salsa), I just clip the tops and a few leaves for using every few days, I dunno if that's the best way to use herbs or are you supposed to wait until they grow flowers/seeds & get fully-size later on?

do not let them grow flowers. many herbs start to lose flavour once flowers start coming in. clip off all buds once you see them so the plant can focus it's energy on vegetation rather than flowering.

on another note, my grow tent just arrived! woot! time to clear up a spot to set it up.

here is a pic of my grow tent all set up with the grow light
its pretty empty in there right now but will fill up as more seeds start germinating
the plant at the bottom is my Naga Jolokia chili pepper and the thing next to it is a tray (sitting on a stool) containing three rockwool cubes for germinating some thai basil.

since buying my house I've become quite the gardener.
Unfortunatley that means mostly clearing out weeds.
Unfortunatley for the weeds today I bought a gas powered stihl weed wacker. muhahahah so overkill I love it

First of all, I have to say EL-OH-EL at Yohan for sending the link to this thread to me via MSN.

Second of all I want those seeds.

Third of all, contary to popular belief, I've never used a hydroponics setup. I've grown hot peppers for years just in a pot and plain ol' sunshine. I also highly recommend picking up a certain fertilizer called Plantprod. You can find it in Crappy Tire or Walmart. They have a few different formulas but there's only two that I use depending on where the plant is in it's life cycle.

I'll use the starter from the time you start getting a few leaves until the plant is about 6 weeks old, usually twice a week increasing the dose a bit every time. This will develop an insanely strong root system which will help greatly with the next step.

Next I use the tomato & vegetable one once a week right up through the rest of the plant's life, only stopping when it's obvious the plant has exausted itself from producing so many peppers and is going to die soon. This stuff is very strong and just a single overdose can kill an otherwise healthy plant. But that becomes more unlikely as the plant grows larger.

This concludes my yearly post, hope all is well.

that is really high in phosphorus so wouldnt that be better used during flowering?

It kinda reminds me of the lounge area in Gallery!

Other than that, it's kinda cool. I didn't know they sold mini indoor greenhouses. Shit I remember years ago when I was living in a townhouse, I had an extra bedroom. I thought it would be cool to germinate seeds, so I set it up in there with grow fluorescent lightning and tables. I even bought a small humidifier and cranked it up and it felt like a greenhouse. All the seeds germinated into nice plants for the spring garden, but there was a problem that creeped up. My fucking walls started growing mold all over them. I didn't expect that. I shut it all down and let everything dry up. When my son was born that became a baby room, so I had to sand the shit off the wall, primed and painted. I thought the drywall would have been ruined, but it dried nicely. After the paint and faux finish, you would never have known what the room was damaged from it's greenhouse days!
