Sylenth is one of the better VSTi's, but still no match for a MOOG in the depth, texture and grunt department.

Sylenth is great BUT it's not suppose to emulate analogs. It's more like great digital era synth. Try this:
http://www.vstcafe.com/2009/05/elek...-pack-vsti.html
for some analog recreations (Moog Sonix Six, Micro Moog, Davoli Synth, Arp Solina, Arp Odyssey, Oberheim 2voice, Roland Juno 6). I'm not sure how close those vsti's are compared to the hardware but lots of ppl are stunned with this pack quality.

But no matter what, the single C note of real, hardware analog still kicks ass

I've never tried any of the Moog imitations, so I don't know how the VST attempts compare to the real thing.

My favorite "analog imitation" VSTs are impOSCar and the KORG Legacy Analog collection. They're wonderful for pads, which of course would be tough to do with my single-voice Moog (would have to record each note separately).

Analog Factory is also a great emulation synth, check it out, you just can't program it.
