My dad never punched me out or anything, but he did some standard ear pulling, arm twisting, pushing down, and smacking while growing up.
We are now the same exact height, but he has 40 pounds of extra tire. I knew if it came down to it I could easily tackle him down from his legs, pull his arm from the opposite side while kneeing his torso down.
One time I attempted to go to the labor camps to film the conditions, and I ran into hot water. My dad got really pissed, and he "banned" me from such stunts against the UAE government, since he said the whole family /business could be jeopardized by my actions(now I see that there is truth to this) He kind hail blazed me a few times in the torso, and pushed me onto the couch. I got back up, said fuck you, and this time I didn't let him push me back down. I remember driving him into the wall and grabbing his neck saying I am "free from his tyranny". It then threw him forcefully back onto the couch and pressed him down and told him to cool off. No shots to the face from either side, which was a good thing. We didn't talk for a while, and in I referred to him as "Homo" whenever we did talk which gets his blood boiling. Nowadays, we regularly call each other homo in a very casual way with no malice intended lol.
More recently, there was some cocktail party that had some pretty interesting people. One of which was a Dr. Al Riyadhi, who was a personal Doctor to Saddam's family for some time. I am not the to put up with convention and be polite and talk about the fucking weather, so I flat out asked him why he didn't poison the weasel when he had the chance, along with his sons. Very offended that I asked the question, he said"oath" and just started to walk off, so I kind of grabbed his arm lightly saying "hey did you ever get contacted to kill the prick"? my dad was nearby and said to cool it, and we got into an argument, I was cussing him, his ways, his conventions, so in another room(this party was in our house) he went to that zone where he is my commander and started pushing, so I just got up in his face, then he said get out,and threatened to call the cops(in which even if the father hits the son I will still be at fault) I said make me, and he tried to make me, and I just kept resisting while letting my words do some damage. Eventually he gave up and went back, and I pissed off for a bit.
Things have been kind of shaky since then, and its a very conditional relationship. I sometimes remind him, "dont go there", and that will suffice. We are somewhat civil today, and perhaps I will get involved in business/Iraqi politics in the future with him If we can figure out how to not drive each other crazy
Good thread...those moments of breaking through the barrier when you've had enough is like reaching the next level in a videogame or someshit! I am lucky that I managed to come out of conflict with minimal damage, Middle eastern patrairchs tend to have very little tolerance for this kind of treatment of the parents.
