| quote: | | It's not the joy of others that affects me.. it's the music. I don't like it, and it would be so much cooler if more people liked the music I like You're Dutch, so you're probably very aware of what's hot in our country. On the one hand, we have Armin-trance and Dirty Dutch house (which is played on the radio) and on the other hand, we have lots of hardstyle and hardcore. Just look at the favorite genres on Partyflock (you've already said that, I know). I like to hang out in my football club's clubhouse after trainings and matches. The music playing there is always one of these genres. I tried to introduce them to my favorite genres, but they just won't let me. So it's not the music there of which I get my 'joy', as it is to others people. That doesn't hurt me, but the situation could be better, for me, that is |
I see, experienced the same thing in the 90's when I started loving trance. Happy Hardcore and Eurodance you could be heard all day and everywhere, but some good trance, forget it.
Yep, it's a bit frustrating. For me it all got better when I was old enough to visit bigger clubs (also in Belgium) with more area's and met more people with the same taste. Also I started DJ-ing a bit, so was also able to play stuff I liked.
Fact is the majority of people have an average TOP40 taste. Below 20 indeed hardcore is very popular. I don't think you can change that.

I have to admit, I've had my share of horrible tastes.
~11yo: happy hardcore
~13yo: eurodance
~15yo: rap/hiphop and hardstyle
~17yo: trance
~18yo: house
~20yo: progressive house/progressive
~21yo: 20yo and techhouse/techno
~22yo: 20/22yo and deephouse/nu-disco
At this very moment (23yo), I mix up almost everything which I listed from 20yo on. So for the kiddies that still listen to top 40 and hardcore, there's still hope.
And indeed, thank god I get to go to the better parties/events/clubs. I have two/three friends who frequent those nights with me, but I'm always the instigator. The just rely on me for it, and I've never let them down Sometimes I go by myself, if no one else is coming along.
Thank god for message boards like this. TA has really influenced my tastes.
