not really, its all in the name of trying to keep it interesting.. |
It already is interesting to begin with by getting to listen to people's take on a genre that they are not familiar/knowledgeable. You can still have a very interesting challenge by using genres like Techno, Trance, Deep House, Big Beat, Indie Dance/Nu Disco, Tech House, Minimal, Progressive House, and Dubstep. There's no need to get idiotic with genres like Casiocore, Skweee, or even Happy Hardcore. It's supposed to be fun for the person making the mix too since it's a learning experience, not torture.
I only participated in the first one, and I did learn something. I had "Electro-Tech Trance", and I learned to appreciate the way the guys that play it, mix it. It certainly is different to mix than the Deep/Tech House that I play. Much more stuff going on that can fuck up your mix. However, I found that it's much easier to program. What the hell would I have been able to learn from Casiocore? Not only is it horrendous, it's completely irrelevant.

Makes me laugh really. I got knocked last time for suggesting deep tech, but stuff like casiocore and even skweee and such are just a novelty and really getting carried away imo.
You may not like it but I think happy hardcore is a good genre choice, however I'm a bit busy at the mo to get involved this time around.

It's at the point where I feel like putting a lot of these mixes together is more of a hassle than anything. Seriously. These picks are way too fucking specific. That's why I decided to pass this time. I was lucky to not get stuck with anything really bad the last two times, but I'm not gonna risk it this time around. Yea I could enter and get stuck with something shitty that I'll never have any hopes of coming up with a mix for and in the end just not submit an entry, as people have done in the past, but I don't swing that way. |
The whole point of this challenge is to discover new music/music that you wouldn't normally give a chance, so if you have this kind of attitude, you might as well pack it in.
That said, seeing as how the majority has ruled that skweee is too exotic, I'll accept that. I choose oldschool trance (91-95) instead.
