Whoah, no hate for the kids at all!
In fact, I'm in that age band (albeit growing up in the UK) and yes uplifting house (aka trance come 1998) was huge but one of the first clubs I ever went to was a Harcore and drum and bass rave. I watched D&B die in about 1998, then come back again in about 2001 when the aussies and americans discovered (mainstream) it again.
What you were listing about your little bro was what broke amongst DJ's and serious clubbers/enthusiasts about 18 months to 2 years ago and now the kids get in to it and move on, that's all.
D&B is another one of those things that even though I love some of it (and grew up with it) doesn't work that great in clubs and I've seen it come and go so many times I just don't buy it anymore when people try to tell me it's the next big thing.
Trance in it's main form today, is for kids - the turd that certain big name DJ's churn out has nothing to do with what I called trance, and it's longevity only suits people with:
a, lack of experience or cultured tastes in music.
b, a need to get obliterated (beyond any other concern).
Just look at the pics from clubs by the big boy trance dj's now - the average age is startlingly low - even PVD admitted that most of the people turning up to clubs he plays in are less than half his age (and he's not even 40).
