The old tracks are good because they bring you back to that first rush of "WOW this is AMAZING". Remixing the classics every year takes that edge off, because you hear it every time you go out.

You're not going to get that same rush of adrenaline when you head down to the same club you've been to 200 times. You're not always going to have your heart leap into your throat when your favourite Dj plays your favourite song...mostly because you've been there, done that and bought the T-shirt. (Sometimes literally, lol)

I think that you (not you personally, Kel) have to take a step back, and look objectively on your life as a whole. You've changed, you're older, you want some bigger/different things.

I think the "Trance Baby Boomers" are getting older, and just want some different things now. The commercialism of Trance has taken it in a more mainstream direction, and now we're saturated with the stuff that we've been saturating ourselves since day 1.

Maybe its just a case of Too much, too often?

For some people Drew but for me it's not oversaturation because I stopped listening to it since it's become crap (circa 2003/2004/latest 2005). I still like some of it but I have to look a lot harder for decent tracks, sets, djs that play the style of trance I like (and that style is increasingly not out there). Or trance djs don't play a variety of stuff, or when they do it sounds too extreme and there is NO flow in what they're doing. It's like the house and techno djs have taken melodies and incorporated them into their sound and the trance djs instead of adding more of the beats and breaks of other genres had stuck to the same formula. When they didn't do this and tried to be original and the quality wasn't there (see my prev post w the other djs...), it just sounded like GARBAGE and turned me off completely. Meh. lol

well I agree and disagree here. I agree because clubbing certainly isnt my main priority anymore (as it was when I was 18-24 or so....). I also have to agree because the clubs here are WACK (ever since Roxy and Crobar shut down). I truly cant stand the clubs here, and while i love the fact that NYC gets such great talent brought in, the vibe is completely lost on me (probably because, to me, there ISNT much of a vibe at all!)

But, as for just being over-saturated because of the length of time listening to the same genre: I dont necessarily think thats the case, in my world anyways. I can still appreciate a great track or a great night. Both still give me a rush on the occasion that it does occur (which is rare as of late, but possible.

however, the style of trance is really whats pissing me off here. Its just such CRAP. Again, just my opinion, but I download sets and I kinda just half-pay-attention to them because they all sound the goddamn same! And on top of that, most of the sets are bland, bland and more bland.

it like, please pass the salt and pepper, I need some spice back in my life!!

go listen to some trance from that time period....todays trance is all the same waterdown garbage. There are a few tracks that will still give me goose bumps.....and when that happens I know the track just gets to my soul. Trance music today sounds like it was just slapped together with some no name brand glue. Its not made to last...its made to get the quick buck before people start to like some other sound. Hip hop went the same way in the mid to late 90s.

Yep. I hate how dj's take elements of one genre and make a half assed attempt at a 'new genre', like tech trance using modern minimal style of techno and trancey melodies and BUTCHER the attempt. Makes me so sad. Doing stuff that is similar to this makes me not party at places like Guv or where there is 'trance' as I did before...

***** the best thing I can suggest is go on youtube and just look up some old tracks. Look at even older tracks from the early 90s. There is just so many good tracks from the early 90s as well. Just a few that I can think of are
Age of Love - Age of Love
Orbital - Halcyon On & On
Humate - Love Stimulation (Paul Van Dyk mix)
Balil - Parasight
Spicelab - Amorph
Dance 2 Trance - We Came in Peace
The Future Sound of London - Papua New Guinea
Moby - Go
Art of Trance - Orange
Hallucinogen - LSD
Arpeggiators - Freedom of Expression
Red Planet - Star Dancer
Orbital - Chime
Legend B - Lost in Love
Hardfloor - Confuss
