200 bucks a head is very extravagant for a meal.

you can spend that much at some restaurants per person, but keep in mind that a restaurant has overhead costs to take away from your bill. A typical restaurant will take the cost of a plate and multiply by 4.

to do this at home is a waste of money. Bring in 15 people and you can usually get a nice private room in several fine dining establishments. It would also cost a lot less this way, so what is the point?

an executive chef barely touches the food and hardly has the time to take a shit. It would also depend on location, and what you wanted. The silly thing is that most of the actual preparation would be done ahead at the restaurant because an industrial kitchen is not like a home one.

you would basically be paying the guy a grand to smile and look pretty. Really really stupid unless you are made of money and don't care. A lot of restaurants with high profile chefs have what is called a chef's table aka a table in the actual kitchen of the restaurant. My bet is that would be more fun and worth the money.

Jay, your idea sounds like it would be awesome, but highly unlikely given the situation. You know as well as I do that chefs are not normal people, and they're certainly not nice people. If you called a restaurant (ESPECIALLY a non-chain restaurant with an exec-chef) and asked to sit at the chef's table in the kitchen, they would ask who the fuck you are and why exactly they should care. Then they would laugh and hang up on you all while high fiving each other.

the thing is i have sat in on a chefs table. Become a semi regular customer anywhere and they will be more than happy to oblige you if they have an opening.

I'm not talking about iron chefs here bas, i am talking local and more available. I can cook better than bobby flay, why would i want to sit in his kitchen

the way they really get you at the chef's table is that the chef picks everything, including the wine.

he will pick something a bit more expensive (ok a lot more expensive) and will just keep sending you stuff. It is not for those with a weak budget, but i was not paying.

i would have been happy with a bottle of good ole liberty school.
