I don't think this will affect us much.. the RIAA is way more concerned with cash-cow pop music than electronica. I doubt many electonic music labels are even members of the RIAA, since it costs a label quite a bit to be part of the organization.

I honestly dont understand how artists can lose money if people download their stuff. Its like this:

Scene 1: The person downloads the song, likes it, buys the retail version.
Moral: This boosts the artists sales, and spreads his material to people who never heard him before (who might later decide to buy his stuff and further boost his sales). Whats wrong with that?

Scene 2: The person downloads the song, hates it, doesnt buy the retail version.
Moral: Is the artist mad because all his sales come from people who buy his stuff and end up not liking it?

Scene 3: The person downloads the song, likes it, but doesnt buy anything anyway.
Moral: Like I said, the person doesnt buy anything period. Getting rid of mp3s wont really force him to buy anything.

There you have it. Why cant everybody see things my way? Seriously though, why dont all these people focus on local shootings etc. instead? Just yesterday there was an airport shooting in LA! Sheez.

even if they tried to sue some of the individuals... there are so many, they'd probably start to lose money in lawyer fees, i think they should just give up... this is one case record companies will never win... a few of the giant record companies against millions??

That comment made me think of the graphic that was floating around that had the whole "When you pirate MP3 files you're downloading COMMUNISM!!!" spiel on it...

I'm completely agreed on your view though, if costs were reasonable piracy wouldn't be an issue...I know here in the States I think it's pretty bad but it's nowhere *near* as horrid as it is in Canada or Europe..I know I was browsing CD's in Canada last week and GU discs were over $30 (plus the ever lovable Grab and Steal Tax...) which is way over the top IMO...it's not a bad deal if you're coming into the country with american cash but for people who have to live with the costs that high on a day to day basis it's more than a little unappealing.

God and i thought Canada was cheap! When I went to Toronto it was like the equivalent of £8 to buy a cd, while over here its like £16!!! Sorry, I get very heated when it comes to these things

if CDs were even $10 US instead of the usual $16, I would buy them. $16 is a lot of money for a CD that I don't even know if I will like. THe past cds I have bought have been disappointments, and I had to pay $16+ for them.

That is so true. Things like that are way more serious then damn MP3s. They sould worry about things like that, rather then people sharing mp3s. And sue people that trade mp3s? Umm...thats gonna be a hell of alot of people being sued.
