Think of this next time you criticize a professional producer for putting out filler tracks. 
Once you've reached a certain level of specialization you can generally create a working environment for yourself that allows you to actually do your best work (for a lot of people that's consulting). But that's really another conversation entirely.

And any company that operates on such metrics alone is doomed to mediocrity at best, or bankruptcy. (Well, except a manufacturing company, but that's different)
