Agreed. I also don't like the whole NY resolution thing for that reason. If you're going to do something then do it straight away, don't wait for an excuse.

I'm trying to think what happened in 2009 to define the year and realised I've achieved a shit load of things. I'd say the thing I've learned is: don't write something off until you know it's impossible.

This. Also, that some people are just fucked up beyond repair, and they need to be cut out of your life, not let back in.

I am an old man. Throughout my life I have worried about many things. Most of which never happened.

I don't really feel like I learn lessons anymore. I think I did most or all of my major life learning in my teens and early twenties. Now it's more about things either supporting or changing my beliefs. That said, I've definitely become more tolerant of being wrong and accepting of differences between myself and others. I used to really stand firm on things being absolute, but over the past year especially I've been better able to see that things are not so, and try harder to be more objective.

edit: Funny, but I'm sure the reason I can be so narrow minded and stubborn is exactly because I learned so many lessons so young.

It's better to confront an issue (person) than just to complain about it (them).

Doing shots of rum+tobasco sauce is nowhere near as good as it doesn't sound.
