I think it was Mario J who brough Murat in to play at Footwork about three years ago. Place was fairly rammed and his set was off the chain. Someone also booked in Rob Hood at FW the same year. Not quite as busy, but such a memorable night. Hood destroyed the place and I haven't danced that hard in ages.

But as you state, sadly, those are exceptions to the rule. Amazing how these guys can play for thousands overseas, but (with the exception of one-offs like Movement/DEMF) get next to no love on their home continent. Some things never change.

I saw him shortly after this gig and when he realized I was from Canada he referred specifically to that night at FW and what a great time he had, it was one of his favourite gigs of the year believe it or not. Shame indeed that he likely won't be back in Canada any time soon... it has been much longer since he last played Montreal too, maybe Sona days?
another techno artist that would be nice to see back in Canada after all this time is the Advent.

Bring on the fucking hard beats!!! Speedy J was the last set I saw that was laid down proper...

Clarke anywhere in T.O. and Steve Rachmad at Footwork are my "dream" sets.

His sets aren't at all like white noise. The radio show serves to play new, diverse music from both up and coming or established artists - including Rachmad.

Checkout any of the past sets posted here. If you like harder, edgier techno, Clarke can deliver.

Dave Clark kicking out the oldschool jams, live. Six parter, total insanity.

Trust, if I ever come into a whack of cash or the backing needed to bring some of these guys (and gals - Michelle Herrmann would be a top pick) in, mnml's monopoly on Toronto will be over.

That's great to hear! He's one of those producers whose DJing skills are mos def on par with his production - class act who puts the music first and foremost.

Can't recall which party it was, but I saw the Advent perform when Cisco and Colin were still working together - total shitshow, that was.

Just accept you are in the minority here. Either change in your life something and move over there, throw a party here, or quit whining. It's like over and over from the same people in the techno community...this purist nonsense is tiresome and old IMO.

on the whole, Toronto is a really dynamic city for electronic music, whether you agree or not. Major international DJs recognize what a great scene and crowd we have here. I for one don't spend my life wishing I were elsewhere.
