I did. However, the problem seems to persist in some specific sectors even after I reformat it (that is, when I "quick reformat" it - depending on the partition, I can't format it properly).

I sure hope they are. I'm running a computer with a damaged HD. And I have some partitions along with different operating systems just in case one of them stops functioning.

What about guarantee?

I've got a simular problem, my HD just gave up (samsung) after a year. It does nothing anymore (power doesn't work) is there any way to get to the files on them? or did I download 200GB of Pron for nothing?
bought a new one yesterday (western digital) 1TB
