i hope for you guys that Markov's injury does not hamper him too much...he is your best d man by far, and the last few weeks he has been painful to watch.
russia's biggest weakness is on defense...but with an offense like that it should not be a big factor until they play the bigger teams in the tourney.
anton volchenkov will block a lot of shots for you guys though, which will be great for the pk. other than that he has so little mobility and does not make a good first pass.
like you said, Russia's weakness is defense... although i'd debate that both goals were stoppable and could be blamed on the GKing too.

yeah, nabokov was weak on both...it is better that he gives those up against latvia, because he can't afford to do that against any team after the prelims. Even with all of the offensive talent of the big 6 teams in the tourney, with the smaller ice surface the games should be tight when the weak links get bounced.
i wonder if luongo starts again, or brodeur gets a go tonight. They can't take Germany lightly, they are a lot better than they used to be.

how bout dem ruskis?
they lost last night to Slovakia in a shootout. then again, group play isn't that important. the only important thing is placing in the top 4 to get the 1st round bye.

Its only the prelims, but it is still nice to see the rest of the world playing well. It is a great thing for the sport.
Many great little stories are writing themselves this year.
an embarrassing olympics, this, for the motherland.
but, like jay said, it's good to see a little parity in the sport. and it's definitely good for the NHL, a lot of people are making a name for themselves. for example i will be watching a lot more of Jonas Hiller on the Ducks.
