it's definitely timing, but it's also simply impossible to evaluate a social and business structure in the moment: the music industry is stuck in the past, and n00bs are looking towards to future...

anyways, the point is, if you're making music to make money you're oblivious to how the music industry is travelling at the moment. if you're hoping to make cash from EDM you're almost criminally idiotic.

especially if you plan to do it from just single sales.
anybody who knows anything about the music industry, and edm in particular (and who isn't completely dillusional) will tell you that it's extremely difficult to make money from record sales these days.

to re-state: if you're making edm tunes to make money, either try to become a pop star, or get a real job.

if you're making it for pleasure you most likely wouldn't care either way

exact the reason why i started my own label. this 20 pages contracts frighten the shit out of me. and i know for sure i wont earn any money anyway so why the hell give away my rights too? starting my own label was a good thing for my creativity and frustration of the labels around. its not much work either (as long as u stay away from beatort, that website is terrible for uploading new material). I started my own label after one lousy deal with armada, thats all i can take, and i still push them about getting my tracks rights back, closing the deal because they have fooled me out of money for "promotion costs". fuck i want those tracks back.

After reading some many posts on this thread , the idea that making music (espically in this field we are talking about) doesn't feed you stucked in my mind.

But hey , it does bring some extra cash I guess!

I'm sure most producers work really hard on their productions, I know I do.

Well done on the translation, you succeeded, where I had failed.

I disagree. Hard work isn't limited to the physical - it can be creative or intellectual as well. A good artist has usually spends many years perfecting his/her art and often many months or years creating their masterpieces. The best get rewarded accordingly. Of course, often it's the cheesiest who get the biggest rewards when it comes to music, but that's a whole other discussion.
