Maybe I'm completely out of touch but I really don't see anything appealing... other then the dove shit, that one's kinda cool. Most of it looks like gift shop stuff. Am I that far out of the loop?

A native New Yorker will realize a lot of the inspiration.

That coffee cup was very common in the 90s in NY delis and street vending.

I also recognize the dove and the lady, but can't place where.

As scotty said, native new yorkers should be able to see the inspiration. i believe i mentioned earlier (or maybe in the NYTA thread) that I've hung out with these kids for some time but never formally decided to help them. Nor did they ever formally ask me to help them, but now that we're bumping heads, i choose to stay out of the war room. the creative brainstorms can be taxing on the business minded people because opinions conflict.

So scotty, yes I agree the dove and the lady have some real NY inspiration I myself can't put my finger on it but I know I've seen it somewhere in my past.

If you do order, please use the coupon code for the 25% off. Saves you money and allows me to apply some metrics to my efforts.

I can appreciate that. BTW, that wasn't hate, I just don't get it and thought I might be missing something.

never considered it to be, but based on the way this place operates and the reputation that precedes me, i'm susceptible to the witty banter...or should I dare say now the utmost respect!

it is because older dudes like us are scared to wear unicorn colours just like we refuse to drink pabst blue ribbon because we know better.

I'm not big on these either, but i can see this having appeal to a younger market. If it focused less on brutal colours that hurt the eye, simple branding way too big, and more on nice design patterns with smaller logos it would be more for me.

I have to agree that this stuff looks very souvenir shop, kinda like what those kids on the jersey shore were selling/would wear.

Maybe I'm just 2 demanding
Maybe I'm just like my father 2 bold
Maybe you're just like my mother
She's never satisfied (She's never satisfied)
Why do we scream at each other
This is what it sounds like
When doves cry

;p

older dudes? I think we're trying to bleed those lines such that older dudes can wear fashionable items that reflect a period of time in which they grew up in. Not by the way of styles such as Local Celebrity or novelty items as the previously mentioned souvenir shop. The clothing is printed on top quality shirts (American Apparel), the cut and sow will rival most of the high-end fashion / couture stuff, just the nostalgia from the heart of NYC'ers. Ultimately, that is the mass appeal we wish to achieve. We do recognize a market in the younger generation, that's just the coming out.

I would retort about the souvenir shop, but I think the materials used speak for themselves in both cases. And the screen printing on those items only prove inferior to some of the technologies we've used on the AA stuff.

Fashion is a very broad market with very distinguished price points. Building a brand within the fashion industry is probably one of the hardest things to accomplish.

I think we want to move passed the making money off of tragedy and set new trends for a brighter future. Everyone has poured in responses for a NY-Haiti t shirt with proceeds going towards charity. Great timing, good mass appeal, done for a good reason, but ethics tell us we can contribute without gain thus the reason why we didn't include any designs in the spring line.

the only one i found less offensive to the eyes was the ny beef co which i would probably wear and the grey hoodie that the asian dude is wearing.

i respect what you guys are trying to do and all, i just think that the large gash branding is doing the same as a million others are. Do you want to get lost in the current or go against it? You see stuff like this in almost every tourist shop in NYC. I've been many times, i'm not blind.

I'm just throwing in an opinion, it is by no means the end all to anything. Put your work out to be seen, and people will comment on it.

Branding is not that difficult to accomplish...get one famous or even semi famous person to be seen in a picture wearing one of your prints and over night your sales increase exponentially. Finding a face for a brand has always been more important than the actual brand itself. You can see this with many companies that were smaller and blew up because of who wore it.
