Although it's not exactly "today" music, Gordon Lightfoot will always be the one artist that I think of as "Canada"

As for current music, I don't really find myself attributing artists with their nationality, and I'm not sure if it's me being lazy, or that I'm just hearing too much commercial, blah music. lol

Most current music we listen to doesn't have a nationality associateed with it. I don't think the artist being from Canada makes it Canadian Music. I agree...someone like Gordon Lightfoot you associate his music with Canadian Music...same with Stompin Tom and The Hip.

Does anyone really think Barenaked Ladies or Nickelback represents Canadian Culture and Canadian Music??

If we can't pinpoint canadian culture then I find it hard to say what is Canadian Music. Canadian music is very different in every province....even if you take immigration out of it canada is very diverse in its culture from province to province.

oh definitely. But, correct me if I'm wrong, I think Matt's real question is of icons of Canadian origin.

The original question was

So we first have to figure out what is Canadian Music...not which artists are Canadian. I just don't think we can say what Canadian Music is as it differs too much from province to province.
