I've noticed that, while I tend to hit it with my left thumb most of the time, my right thumb likes to "rest" subtley on the spacebar and, about sixty percent of the time, will lightly tap the spacebar at the same time as my left thumb.

I use my right thumb and index finger. I developed my own way of typing, I only use my index fingers, right thumb and middle fingers. I can still type pretty fast too.

Edit:

I just noticed I use my left ring finger for shift and caps and ctrl pretty much all the far left keys.
