Cardio is absolutely necessary for shoveling.
You need to run at least 14.3 miles a day to clear an average driveway.
Martial arts would not benefit because the skill comes naturally over time from the shoveling.

As a Brit, the idea that lethal animals can be wandering around your garden or even your house is incredibly disturbing to me.

They are rare in the city. Haven't seen a snake here in over a decade, though the spiders are the ones that you have to look out for.
