For at my desk, I use a pair of sennheiser HD205. Aquired primarily on convenience-based justification, but they've turned out to be quite satisfactory for until I can find something ideal to splurge on. Which is a notoriously unrealistic expectation when it comes to audio.

The major thing to their credit is a very crisp sound. If you're primarily concerned with precision and agility, these are probably worth checking out. At this price point the tradeoff comes out of the low end... it's not what I'd call lacking, but it won't quite do that really juicy bassline spillover effect. So if you absolutely must have a pronounced wing curve to your EQing these may not be the first thing you want to try.

They do fit tight enough to your head to wear out and about comfortably. This may or may not result in looking like a knob, but what actually kills the idea for me is I have nowhere to put them when I want to take them off.


They're not the most comfortable mixing headphones, but if you want to use them this way (and your gear allows it) try routing the left/right channels the wrong way 'round and wearing them backwards. Only the right ear cup rotates, and I find they're more workable when that becomes the left ear cup. Could be personal idiosyncracy.



On a related note, what player software do people recommend? I've been using VLC because it sounds better than anything else I've tried, but the interface is garbage and it has some annoying bugs.
