Long answer:
When I was younger, I dabbled in some junior confirmation handling for some kennels in the states, did some dog sledding, and had a neighborhood dog walking business, so I've had a lot of experience with many different breeds of dog. My parents had a strict rule. No Rotties, No dobes, No pittbulls, No sheperds. Basically no dogs with a bad rep.
The second I moved out I bought a Dobe, Naxton.
Nax, was the perfect dog. I know a lot of owners will say they have the perfect dog, but Nax really was. He was gentle, funny, and obedient to a tee; every one who met this lovable floppy eared goofball instantly fell for him, even people who had said previously that they aren't dog people. He'd listen to anyone who told him what to do, and did it well, but always knew my word came first.
He was bigger than most dobes, and fast as a bullet. We had a light up collar we used to put on him when we let him run in the field at night and it was like a constant wave of light in the distance.
About three weeks ago, Cam and I had to put him down. His stomach flipped. 3 hours, and he was gone. It was hands down, the worst night of my life. He's more than irreplaceable, and any dog would have huge paws to fill.

About 3 days after we put Nax down(and after I'd sworn to myself that I wouldn't get another dog for a while) I got an e mail, from a dobe rescue that I'd signed up for about a year and a half earlier, and never heard from. They e mailed me asking if they could forward my profile along with some others to a private re-home request they'd gotten. I thought about it, and as to not nix my chances for the same opportunity in the future I said yes. Well, it just so happens that the family picked my profile. They sent me a profile for a dobe, with pictures. As soon as I saw them I bawled. He looked so much like Nax, same floppy ears, same curious look, and similar long face. After reading through the profile, at the bottom it had his name. His name was Max.
I picked him up that Sunday, and haven't looked back. He's a great dog; he's very affectionate but has the attention span of a goldfish. He needs a lot of work, as he's had zero training, but he's eager to learn and I think he'll get there eventually (ok, maybe not all the way there, but close) He's not Nax, but he's growing on me.
We renamed him Axel, Max was a little bit too close to home.

Sorry for the novel. Enjoy.
