Tiesto is a sellout because he produced a shitty track with 36 Mafia. Frankly, I've heard better music from both and that POS sounded like they phoned it in to a Studio Intern, who then made the track before vocals were recorded. If I put up a shitty remix of Snoop Dog's song then I might consider calling myself a sellout, provided I did it because I got paid $5000+ and insisted my name was on the single release.
The fact is, I'm doing it for free. Am I working for the incentives of exposure along with a grand in cash? I could use both, but, with so many people entering, what are my chances, realistically? I'm doing it because it's a challenge to be doing it and also a chance to expand my experience as a music producer by working with a genre outside of my typical music production style.
I'm certainly not, however, churning out crap using an already established professional name, in order to sell a shitty song to capitalize off of initial record sales as part of a cross consumer-base marketing strategy.
