In addition to that regular detergent will clog it since detergent isn't added directly to the wash but fed in through a detergent loader, Ygrene could give you more details than me and you'll also void your warranty. I don't think its any more expensive than regular detergent so why would you want to risk ruining your new front loader?... unless you need an element of danger in your life to make it more exciting.

It won't void the warranty but there is potential that the machine will over sud. Some machines will stop in the middle of a cycle rather than risk suds actually pouring out of the machine. Other machines will work to wash suds away with a series of cold water rinses. Some will just go through the wash cycle as they normally do and the customer will simply find that there is still soap residue remaining on their clothing at the conclusion of the cycle.

The bottom line, from a manufacturing standpoint, is that we suggest using HE detergent because it does deliver the best wash based on the front load washer's mechanics. One thing we have to consider is that if a customer has a bad washing experience (clothing not rinsed properly or clothing not perceived to be clean, as seen when proper detergent isn't used) the customer typically believes that the washer is not working properly. We also have to consider that some customers are pretty passionate about their detergents. So there are always trade-offs and it's really up to the customer; all we can do is try and inform them of what they are.

Well it's not just that it's a front loader, it's that it's a high efficiency machine...so they use less water and agitate the clothes differently. So using high sudsing soap will leave more residue on the clothes, and as the link said, may also affect the cycles.
