Which is great but their prices aren't all that - honestly, most producers (especially yourself Dave) would be better off opening an account with GCpro. I'm not sure what price breaks you'd get be they are nearly always better than retail, especially for the amount of stuff you buy.

That's good to know, even though I buy most of my equipment pre-owned (I'm a serious eBay and craigslist hound) and I also get pretty good breaks from my sales dude at my local GC. But, honestly, since making my last big round of changes to my studio back in February, I haven't made any major purchases, aside from the FHII and soon-to-be-purchased preamp, and my plan is to stick with my current setup for quite some time. But, thanks for the tip - I'll definitely look into it if/when I do make some more major purchases.

BTW, I got my FHII yesterday and got a chance to try it out on one my singers last night (Mia) - initial results are VERY positive.

Congrats! I think it's a truly great mic and I would love to hear your thoughts on it once it's had some serious outings.

I've never done a raspy/gravely voice on it - I would especially like to know what that sounds like on it.

Generally no, but certain monitors I would consider (mackie and genelex for instance because they are built so well) and with some mics you just don't have a choice (vintage neumanns, gefels etc).

To be honest with mics, the more expensive they are the less worried I am about it.

I'd never buy a second hand mic without hearing it first (unless it was cheap and I could return it anyway if needed) and you can tell in a few short minutes if it's been caned beyond existance.

We had a guy who had inherated an SM2 and he brought it so we could demo it and it just didn't sound right. Thankfully we had another we could AB it with but even without it, you could tell there was an issue.

Turned out the power supply had been messed with and it was an expensive fix so it was turned down.

Oh, and just to clarify, the mic I bought brand new.

BTW, I'm pretty impressed with the accessories the FHII comes with - very nice custom aluminum flight case for everything, an individual custom-foam-fitted cedar box for the mic, very nice shockmount, cloth mic bag, and mic cloth. I don't think I've ever purchased a mic under $500 with that many accessories.

@DJ RANN - I'll post some comparisons of it with different singers' voices after I get my preamp and spend some time with it.
