BTW, EDM today can not be compared to EDM of 15 years ago.
Furthermore, can you name a club that has actually properly invested in the venue, a proper lineup and marketed properly.
As Steve Angello recently said commercial music and EDM are on a collision course and the result will be called music.
Things are changing, I have never seen a venue in Waterloo invest any money or create a proper venue.
Anyways, I do honestly thank you for your well wishes. BTW, Purple room is a room not a club |
Mmmm...all good stuff until that. As cool as it is that you are re-doing the bringing in big acts (and that it surely is), perhaps that attitude is not the right one to have. A million light effects an awesome club does not make (doesn't hurt though).
Yeah, Steve Angello is in large part correct wrt the loads of crappy EDM being spewed out every day. So are the number of people who like it, the ones who love it and the ones who despise it. It's becoming more pop, but that's not = to there not being a ton of EDM that doesn't fall into that category. There are some that value that so while it's great that there is another club that you yourself are pretty much saying ^ is going to "BE" ( ) top40 mashups, doesn't mean the places that don't go in that direction are NOT good EDM (one could easily argue against that). Not gonna argue that one's better than the other, just saying, a little respect for those of us who prefer what PR used to be great for and now is again. Beta is going to attract a certain crowd and that crowd will undoubtedly be large whether it be people who don't know the difference between what is traditionally (but never unanimously) liked around here and DJ Danny D, or even the purists who just like the club itself.
Absolutely Beta is going to be a great atmosphere, just like Tabu was. Just like Tabu though, the best nights there were when there was an EDM artist and/or Kurtbradd didn't have to play 9 Deadmau5 tracks. He's an awesome DJ, and it was great when you could see he was playing out, not following a prescription. PR has been awesome the past few Fridays BTW (I'm being as unbiased as possible) for the reasons it used to. A sense of connection, that's its charm. No reason why they can't co-exist. IMO they serve different interests. May be a "room", but it's an f'in fun one when it's going. Also, someone's bedroom can be a club (insert joke). It's about what's going on there. Focus less on the hype and how much bigger and better you are and you guys will do well.
It'll be interesting to see whether Beta falls prey to the university town tug of war between getting the maximum admittance vs. being relevant to the majority of TA on a consistent basis. It's not easy. Luckily, as Dan said, people like "house". What you take that to mean (on non-headlining nights) remains to be seen. I'm sure most of the people in this thread (myself included) are going to check it out. Give us a reason to keep coming back?
PS. Glenn Morisson was also my favourite act at Tabu. That was a disgustingly good set.
