This isn't a question of intimate vs. big-room. I love Cielo, I love Sullivan Room, I actually LOVED the outdoor area at Fur, and a cramped packed out loft party is always fun. I heard even Armin at Pachita was a good time..
If you've done the whole bottle service, Meatpacking District, velvet rope thing a few times or have friends that do it every week like I do,
you'd get what I'm saying. I ask them what they did last night: "First we went to Tenjune, shit, what else.. Went to 1Oak, Gansevoort, Butter, and some other places, it was cool." They're never REALLY excited about the night before, it's always a blur of 4-5 clubs because there's not that culture of enjoying the DJ. I ask them what music was playing, they say "it was cool, not bad".. It's totally secondary, and that's how the patrons regard it as.
That's not their fault. I don't think anyone's hating on them. Let them do what they gotta do, they got 400 small clubs to choose from in the city. If Markus Schulz, Armin, Menno De Jong, and Rank 1 all started playing venues in the city that I couldn't get into though (without a $1000 bar tab, and I'm not exaggerating!), I'd be really pissed at THEM or their booking agent. Electric Zoo cost me $130, thank you very much. That embodies the open spirit of this music, not clubs that bleed exclusivity and pompousness..

You don't know some of the deals I've said no to this year, more than 5K.. I can't be 100% sure what I'd do if I were handed this offer. But I've said no to some offers recently that I won't really advertise on TA lol for different reasons, never the money. Maybe that's why I'm not Top100 yet, but hey that's life.
Point aside, Ravi wanted to play devil's advocate about people's negative reaction to the event so I debated haha.. My argument is less toward Tiesto and more toward reacting to the general possibility that trance DJs can go this route, and if they did, I'd be pissed. Places that don't let someone in because they're only with 2 girls, and not 6; or because you're not wearing a blazer; let those people find trance elsewhere. It's like one of those riddles: they can listen to trance if they wanted to whenever they wanted to at certain venues on any given night, we can't necessarily go to Lavo that night, get in, and listen to trance. As a Tranceaddict forum, we can just hope this concept doesn't catch on and all our favorite DJs start playing in 80 person venues in the Meatpacking, that's all..
