Aphex Twin's music is not ordinary, not unimaginative, not decificient in originality or creativity, not lacking in powers of invention. Whether you like him or not, he is hugely inspired, and has been a massive inspiration to thousands of others. And I wouldn't accuse you of "sweeping generalisations" if you spoke your personal opinion on one artist.

I had the privilege of seeing him DJ a few years back and he floored me. In the hour and fifteen minutes he was scheduled to play he moved from Ambient, to Downtempo, to Hip Hop, to Deep House, to Techno, to Hard House, to Hard Techno, to Drum and Bass and finally topped it off with just some all-out fucking noise.

To this day, it has been one of the most beautiful things I've ever heard. I doubt there are many DJs out there who can do that in just over an hour while maintaining impeccable flow.

sounds like his deejay set when i saw him at coachella festival in 2008 - only had an hour to play and covered all of the genres you mentioned. and he did it damn well might i add. still one of the most interesting deejay sets i've ever heard at a live venue.

That's because you like safe, clean and predictable music that is not challenging in any way. Aphex Twin to you sounds like Kraftwerk sounded to close-minded people in the 70s, and that little comment about saucepans perfectly illustrates that. His music doesn't have an intellectual excitement for you, because you have no intellectual capacity to fully understand or appreciate it. You're an equivalent of a kid who listens to Deadmau5 that tries to be taken seriously while discrediting Basic Channel.

Let's forget bullshit definitions, uninspired artists don't create new genres or radically modify existing ones, they struggle their whole career to make a piece of music that people will remember them for. Whether you want to admit it or not, Richard accomplished a lot of things (see my earlier post) and made tons of both unusual, weird and complex, and accessible, beautiful and ethereal music that will surely be remembered for a long, long time.

his ambient stuff is GODLY: rhubarb, alberto balsalm, xtal, tha, heliospan, ETC.

i also love windowlicker, digeridoo, kesson dalef, and Gentle People - Journey [Aphex Twin Care Mix]

come on people, no respect for aphex?????????? yeah a lot of his stuff is an odd combination of beeps and blips, but his masterpieces more than make up for it.

I'm grade 8 violin, grade 5 piano, and compose classical music. Exactly what musical training do you have?

It's an opinion. Get over it.

Do you also build your own instruments?
