I'm not the biggest fan of Jan either but I don't mind her voice in Mercury & Solace. Alternate meaning for dub is also a re-recording, so in this case it didn't mean less vocals, let alone an instrumental but new rearrangement and editing of the vocals which in the dub version really are quite different at parts compared to the original/12" master mix.
