I had ignored all the threads about Dash Berlin, because I couldn't care less about another cheesy trance producer, and then I found out he's the guy behind the Venga Boys. Now I can't but laugh out loud every time a thread pops up with fanboys hailing him.

Yes, I'm late to the party.

First I've heard of it.

I just figured he was a bad Timothy Olyphant impersonator.

Think they did both.

For the lulz:

quote:
Dash Berlin, (born Jeff X. Sutorius, on November 1979, in The Hague) is a Dutch musician and DJ. In his late teens, Dash Berlin started working at a record shop and became a dedicated vinyl collector with a fascination for melodic, synthesized house music, subsequently known as "Trance".

Inspired by pioneering figures such as; Sven Väth, Oliver Lieb and Sander Kleinenberg, he slowly started to develop his own innovative style of mixing and producing. His hidden work ethic seemed not to be about producing more, but rather less and differently. It is this vision that still sets him apart in a crowded and highly competitive scene. Propelled by his passion, he literally performed everywhere, from nine-hour long gigs in shopping malls to the notorious illegal Dutch warehouse parties.

During his seord[clarification needed] ‘Berlin’ in his artist name. "It's an ode to a metropolis and her engaging, urban landscape," he said, "Where I have seen more than a million people dancing on the streets, in the spirit of an ever-evolving Europe". In early 2006, he teamed up with fellow producers and close friends, Molijn & Kalberg, who were regular customers at his record shop.

"These guys are amazing visionaries and astonishing studio wizards, they are the foundation of my sound" Dash remarked, "I still learn from them every day".

Yup.

Also, Discogs lists three members when it's supposed to be just one.

Vengaboys, no. Some guy from Dutch TV station TMF was behind that.

Alice Deejay, yes and no. The DJ guy wasn't behind Alice Deejay. Those two producers were...

Thats why Dash Berlin is three persons. The two producers, and the DJ guy who takes all the credit for it...

They did do a remix of Vengaboys, which is probably where the connection comes from.

And why no love for their work behind Candee Jay!? I'd rather watch a video of her than all that po-faced serious nonsense in the one for Falling Skys (or whatever it's called).

It's no sillier than people going on about Oliver Hunetemann who maybe don't realise he made some of the silliest fun-synth trance under his kaycee alias.

It never really bothered me if some "decent" producers made money off some absolute guff as long as they also kept providing the good stuff and kept the work separate.

Sadly that's not the case here.
