In the same instance, the RIAA wants the legal right to hack into your computer to stop file sharing AND at the same time be covered by the umbrella which makes it impossible for you to sue them if they do so?

And since when did a DoS require you to stop downloading music for 10 minutes while ya pelted them?

They ask if the DoS people have nothing better to do. Does the RIAA have nothing better to do then rip-off their own artists and attack people who trade music?

if you would read this link that lordcrimson posted you would see it described very well how in most cases how music piracy isnt bad and the RIAA is freaking out about nothing, and how record companies should be glad for filesharing and worry about the million other problems they have instead of blaming everything on music piracy and how the artists dont get barely any of the money from cd sales

Most of the fantastic hackers out there, could destroy the RIAA, if they wanted to , the DDoS is a simple way on how to halt or stop a network, the RIAA are doing no favours to them selfs and they will see there own arse in a few months to come, take for example the police in your area want to come into your home to look for stolen goods ? that will not happen in a million years as the goverments know it will crumble society breaching privacy laws, the computer copyright act states all these rules. The only power which is avalible today is that your ISP or local proxy back end box has lots of kiddie material stored there, even if they have to evidence they still need juristiction to enter your home and make an arrest.

I could just see it know , your in a cell with a rapist who has raped hundrerds of girls of all ages , and he asks you what your doing time for and you say " Downloading DJ Tiesto album " id like to see the look on his face.

the RIAA spokesmen are embarassed on what they have done, and they don't want to show it. they have caused more ppl to join peer-to-peer networks which cause huge volumes of terrabytes and more people to dowload as the bandwidth is faster and the variety is more widely spread, also this increases more people to share ilegal files.

P2P is the way forward, as it is really FTP big brother and its getting bigger, it is too hard to trace down these p2p networks and as it is WIN32 / UNIX based and not HTTP:// like audio galaxy or KAZZA which runs through WEB SERVERS.

example : neo-modus , provide software , they do not have control who is sharing what , they provide the software and thats it, there is no incentive to tell users to trade mp3's, just like MIRC really. audio galaxy was making profits , selling t-shirts etc advertising albums and music, and the software was simple to use, log in - and search then download, p2p offers more felixiblity and durability then AG,

Bleh, a DoS attack does nothing really. I could do it again if I wanted. Just use some ciscos and type some commands and there ya go, sites down. DoS attacks did nothing to them, it just slowed the site down untill the server got overloaded from packets that were to big in size, and sent to fast that it eventually got terribly lagged and crashed. Things like defacing the site, hacking into there system would have done something. Chances are it was just some 14 year old kid with no social life or friends, knows alot about network systems and exploits, that he got some unsecure ciscos from companies that don't bother to change passwords, and started to packet. (It's actually pretty simple. I could do it again if I wanted )

Also, they can't legally hack, nor will they ever be able to, into your computer to see if you are sharing. That would be violating privacy. Nor can they go after p2p systems as the creator has no control over what is shared. When you use p2p, you are directly connecting to other peoples computers through a port, to get the files. Therefor the RIAA cannot do shit because there is no central server. Well I just woke up, gonna eat.

One other major point: in the hysteria of the moment, everyone is forgetting the main way an artist becomes successful - exposure. Without exposure, no one comes to shows, no one buys CDs, no one enables you to earn a living doing what you love. Again, from personal experience: in 37 years as a recording artist, I've created 25+ albums for major labels, and I've never once received a royalty check that didn't show I owed them money. So I make the bulk of my living from live touring, playing for 80-1500 people a night, doing my own show. I spend hours each week doing press, writing articles, making sure my website tour information is up to date. Why? Because all of that gives me exposure to an audience that might not come otherwise. So when someone writes and tells me they came to my show because they'd downloaded a song and gotten curious, I am thrilled!

As an artist and musician I think i would become suicidal if noone ever got to listen to my music or see my art. Internet p2ps allow new musicians to get heard especially in the electronic music medium. the riaa is acting with no consideration towards new artists that want to be heard or to what other record labels in other countries feel. from what i understand the electronic music labels in Europe, specifically the trance labels, coul care less for cd sales. thanx to raves and other electronic music events these people already make there money back and can even make a decent living for their artists and djs. On the other hand some of the commerciallism inherent in the music medium is already starting to rub off on our beloved trance music. djs that charge outrageous amouns to play a 2 hour set also ruin our scene... afer all if i´m a british dj and they invite me to play in indonesia or some pardisiacal place like such i wouldn´t be to concerned about charging to much money. As long as I´m comfortable and am treated ok I might even consider playing for free.
