It seems like at some point people ripped on him for listening to dubstep, I'm not really sure but it makes sense.

Nobody ripped on me for listening to dubstep. And if I were insecure about being "ripped on" for the music I listen to, I wouldn't go on TA and I wouldn't spend any time in MD.

It's entirely possible someone can find the behaviour of a community flawed and worthy of vocal criticism without some cheap dollarbook psychological motivation. I made this thread entirely to prove a point, it didn't take much effort to do and believe me there's little emotional investment in it.

Ok will you do me a favor? Just so I don't start arguing with you over shit I assumed.
You said you had a "point", can you list out clearly and concisely what that point is?

Are you saying that the more genres or styles someones listens to the more creative/better someones music will sound? Or are you saying that the majority of this forum only listens to trance?

The point was quoted by someone at the start of the thread. Here it is repeated:

"This forum is so out of touch it's quaintly hilarious. All the time you people spend talking about technical stuff and it's clear so few of you know anything about remotely contemporary music."

Someone (EddieZilker) essentially called this is a "superficial assumption" so I decided to test it in the simplest way possible.

I'm not claiming there's any kind of science behind this thread, but I can say with reasonable certainty that people who keep up with new music will hear new artist albums. As I've said, the simplest way to exempt yourself from my criticism is to make a list and prove me wrong. That why I need not make incorrect assumptions about any member.

I'm not claiming any definitive link between number of albums listened to and quality of music. If only it were that simple.

Yes thats true, but then again.. i like all kinds of Trance music, (Progressive, Deep, Uplifting, Commercial, Goa, Psy, Breaks) therefore im able to be creative with my music, and I am.. and will be even more so in the future.

Believe me im open for any kind of music, if you got any recommendations for albums, im open for suggestions.. but i like it to be electronicly inspired. I prefer catchy over atmospheric, and good rhythm is hugely important. Rock music for instance, rarely has any focus on drums, they are often just there playing the same old patterns all over again.

I definitely listen to a lot of trance at home, cause its the ONLY place i can listen it, since im the only one i know who actually likes it. (yes its really that bad)

Ok cool thanks.

Now back on topic. Shouldn't you replace "contemporary music" with "dubstep"?
I just went back and read that thread, and it wasn't about general contemporary music, it was about dubstep specifically.

Also, what must I "know" first about a genre before I'm allowed to decide whether or not I like it? I liked trance the same before I started learning about it as I do now. A fair amount of people merely came into that thread and said they didn't like dubstep... and you somehow reach the conclusion that the majority of this forum is out of touch with contemporary because of that?

Thats like me saying I don't like cheese, than you telling me I'm completely out of touch with contemporary food.
No I'm sorry, thats like me saying I don't like cheese, than you telling me and every single person who knows me that we all are out of touch with contemporary food.

Do you think I'm some sort of simpleton?

I don't (and didn't) just call people here out of touch because they don't like dubstep. It's the way people talk about music and talk about the scene that shows they just aren't at all connected with it. And as I said earlier in this thread, I reached my conclusions about this forum long before that dubstep thread.

You're trying far too hard to find some simplistic causality behind my attitude, as if you can find some simple explanation with a simple refutation and then you won't have to consider the possibility that I'm right. I see this forum as a group of people who know everything, but know nothing. Not because my mother ran away with an amateur electronic musician when I was six, but because that's how you people come across.

Did your mother really leave you? If so, it's obvious. And I even know the reason why.

The fact you even asked that question suggests that you, at least, are undoubtedly a simpleton.

I think it's one fact you're hiding here, buddy.

I don't know what is it that got you here, but you should really go away. You've proven it, we're out of touch, go away. I don't like you here. This place has problems of it's own.

My mother didn't leave anything, you fuckwit. I'm staying at my parents' house over Christmas. I was going to leave yesterday and my mother asked me to stay for a few more days. It was a joke about how everyone on this forum seems to resort to bad psycho-analysis when faced with a criticism. You seem to be proving the joke disturbingly correct.

That's mostly Robby, and he studies it. No wonder I suck at it.

You're just saying that because of your own insecurities. Probably stemming from parental neglect or something.
