Really? Lampard is a good player, but he had a shocking World Cup (now there's a star who genuinely sucked ass) he's been out injured for most of this season, and now he's back his team are playing terribly and he isn't influencing games. There's a whole list of midfielders who I'd put above Lampard, not least Xavi and Iniesta.

His world cup phantom goal was brilliant and could have changed history.

He scored 2 goals in chelsea's last game and set up one or two more. Moreover, chelsea's recent poor form is evident of the importance of his presence.

Two goals in a 7-0 rout against Ipswich Town, a struggling Championship team.

What a superb performance from him, his average goals this season is ridiculous. Ronaldo can't even catch up haha.

7-0 inspired by fat frank. Also Ipswich town just beat Aresnal 1-0.

And he forced an own goal so it was close to a hat trick.

Doesn't make them a remotely good team. They're 19th in the Championship, a whole 34 league places below Chelsea, and they've just sacked their manager. Since he's returned, Chelsea have drawn 3-3 and lost 1-0 to struggling sides in the Premiership.

I'm not saying Lampard is a bad player, but he just hasn't done anything of note this season, mainly through injury. The Castrol rankings are supposed to be up-to-date on current performances, and Lampard is not in form.

You can't judge a player from his first two games back after a 4 month (?) long injury, they need time to get their fitness back. But I think you can judge his quality and importance by how poorly chelsea preform is without him. It's sort of like how Xabi Alonso's departure from Liverpool really exposed how crucial he was for the side.

Anyways, I'm just sayin Frank is the shit, but regarding the Castrol Ratings they are bullshit. I think anyone can vote on them through the internet so its whoever has the most fans. I THINK- not sure.

To be fair, after Lampard was injured Chelsea won 5 out of 7 league games and 3 out of 3 Champion's League games. His absence was not immediately noted.

By contrast, when Ray Wilkins was sacked by the club Chelsea won only 2 of their next 11 league matches. I think the absence of Wilkins is more significant than the absence of Lampard. Again, not to disparage Lampard as a good player or an important part of Chelsea's system, but 3rd/4th best player in the world this season?

The Castrol rankings are decided by a complex mathematical formula, they aren't just fan votes. As far as I know, they're based on the same system as the "Fink Tank" statistical analysis used by The Times newspaper in the UK. They're reasonably accurate, especially at predicting likelihoods of results, but they often throw up weird results. You can never fully analyse or understand a sport like football purely based on stats.

Despite how much I hate that cunt, I must say that he's having a phenomenal season as well, and has scored one more goal than Messi. Messi has 29 in 27 matches, while Ronaldo has 30 in 27 matches.

EDIT: Turns out I was wrong. Messi has 31 and Ronaldo has 30, both in 27 matches.
