No, no, no... it's very simple. Mixmag is a British publication, and so this poll reflects UK tastes. Armin, for all his ASOT online simulacra success, has never been that big in the UK. And trance hasn't been big in the UK for years. The list is combination of big names in the current trendy styles - 2manydjs, Andy C and Villalobos representing electro house, drum 'n bass and techno - and 90s UK "legends" such as Sasha, PVD and Tony De Vit.

Clearly the readers of Mixmag are evenly shared between up-front clubbers and grizzled 90s veterans. Tiesto's career arc probably straddles both of those, with his 90s trance days endearing him to faded Gatecrasher acolytes and his current poppy stadium electro direction keeping him in with the kids.

I wouldn't call Villalobos and Andy C current "trendy" artists. And I wouldn't call dnb or techno currently "trendy" either. "Trend" implies here today , gone tomorrow. Electro-house and 2manydjs - yes. Dubstep - yes. Dnb and techno - no.

Popularity of styles tends to ebb and flow. Drum 'n bass and techno spent a few years out of the limelight, now they're firmly back in it. Hence why I dub them trendy. Substitute the word "popular" if you prefer. And 2manydjs have been around for as long as Andy C.

Nah. There's a lot of oldschool trance on those which may sound similar to old goa trance, but there isn't any actual goa on any of those. By the time psy trance and full on developed, Tiesto was firmly on his way to pop DJ stardom by bashing out anthem trancers the world over.

My favorite of all time, pure quality.

I listened to it, and it's good, but I think we like different kinds of trance.

I do not like psytrance, except for a VERY select few tracks.

This set isn't exactly psytrance, but it comes very close many times, and I just don't dig it.

The mixing is good, and there are some gems in there, but overall it just isn't my style.

No, I don't.

This set is massive, this set to me IS trance at its pinnacle. It does not get much better than this, feel free to prove me wrong.

There are only 2 psy tracks in the whole mix. I barely hear any psy at all in the rest of the tracks.

I think what you do not like is "dark" in your trance.

But they are in about everyones top 5.
Hmmm, does that make interpreting a poll easier?

You're probably right. If it's dark, I typically like the bpm to be lower.

Though I do like this track a lot, and I'd describe it as dark:

I love this one, too:

Lady Gaga is actually an example of how to make sucessufl music terribly produced. She is the best at vocal hooks that's it but that actually means being the queen of pop.

I miss some names here, AvB not being in the list is a bit strange to be honest, maybe a hint that this poll is serious.

Oakenfold & J00f could have made on the list, but the first one is a bretrayer , an outstanding goa mix does not justify taking part on the history as one of the best.

Digweed should be placed along with Sasha, they've had parallel stories and i can hardly see one without the other, Sasha is my fav of this 2 though probably because he was more trancey.

And Paul van Dyk deserves more than some of the names, he was a true pioneer and probably is the best dj of the old legion (involving AvB,Tiesto,Ferry etc...) the rest now play strange melodical stuff, his sets are still banging.
