Thank you both for your replies. Rodri, I guess you were right about that sound being hats. I didn't think it was, but my ears aren't well trained.

it is the sort of thing you experiment with then figure out how then you are able to recognize it. I don't think anyone listening to that sound would initially think hihat loop. I remember experimenting with sampling trying to achieve the NEO effect and I found that if you looped the vocal and shortened the loop , you could get that sound. Then I just tried it on everything and voila.

luckily, i enjoy experimenting with things, i've been messing around with producing for some time now, but i'm relatively new to electronic music and so there are many new interesting things to learn. it's quite a fun genre to produce i must say!

production is a lot of trial & error and errors more often than should lead to really interesting things.
