His production style is hit and miss ... 'For an Angel' = serious contender for best trance song ever ... 'You are alive' = fuckin appalling cheeze.

His DJ style's a bit too Germanic for me as well, I prefer the smooth'n'melodic way the Dutch guys do it.

So he's not bad ... but he definitely doesn't deserve to get his ass kissed 24/7 like everyone on here seems to think. Does that make him over rated? I guess it does

PvD is not overated!

my view is that Paul Van Dyk is a Legend! some of my best clubbing experiences have been when his being playing at Gatecrasher Godskitchen, Cream etc etc his Production & Remix work is second to none & he can mix good too for the styles he plays. His 6hrs sets which i've seen from his first april 99 @GC to 2001 have been all an amazing experiences! ok he likes to play his own stuff & remixes a lot! but can you blame him? anyone would if they had a back catalogue of own music like he does hopefully i'll get to Berlin this year & see Paul Plays Paul

i've never got bored of seeing PvD Live & i've been following him since '97' & I can't see myself stopping either!
seen him 2x so far this year GC @NEC & Cream & he was Amazing both times!!!

What more does he have to prove?

IMO the very major part of his productions is either overrated or rightfully bashed.
His mxing skills, however, are more than excellent!

OH SHIT!!!

I thought the vote was for which aspect on PvD you thought was overrated....

Please change a vote for Producing to DJ'ing.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinions, but what the F**k is anyone talking about here!!! PVD sets the tone for everything in this scene. Sure, Tiesto and Armin are hot now and play great sets as well as release nice mixes, but give credit where credit is due. PVD's sets are the most incredible display of music and mixing around(in the trance/house scene) Listen to what he does...he willhave three tracks playing at once, mixing and weaving bak and forth. When I go home from a PVD show, I want to throw my booth out the window! He productions are superb! Cheesy?? How is that even possible? He has his own style, his signature samples and beats..he is a master of electronic music and if you think differently, get over yourself and respect the man.

I still like to have it rocking. Keep in mind what this music is made for, first of all. Its not made to be easy listening on the radio. Its not made to be easy listening in television. Its actually kick ass in the club. This is what music is. This is the purpose of this art form...to listen to it and let the frequencies actually blow you away. --Paul Van Dyk
