Both "beauty" and "intelligence" are problematic concepts in of themselves. I'm sure I don't need to open the discussion on IQ scores as a comprehensive measure of intelligence, and it is far from proven that IQ is inherited genetically anyway. As for beauty, I am consistently surprised by just how much it is in the eye of the beholder, and that's leaving aside that "conventional" beauty varies massively depending on the culture and the period in history.
The way this researcher seems to completely ignore these issues and neglects to qualify his findings in any real way supports the suspicion that he's a bit of a quack. And since the link gives no explanation about the samples or experimental methods used, there's no reason to suspect this study is any more rigorous or scientific than his usual nonsense. Oh, and this conclusion fits in neatly with his larger agenda. Sounds very objective.
Finally, I just don't see any reason why intelligence and beauty should be linked. What's the hypothesis here? Some tenuous idea of overall genetic superiority? This statement just baffles me:
| quote: | | "Given that both intelligence and physical attractiveness are highly heritable," lead researcher Satoshi Kanazawa says, "there should be a positive correlation between intelligence and physical attractiveness in the children's generation. |
