Is there no value to the idea of coming to play for an event and presenting those who paid to attend with the best music no matter what the genre, rather than limiting oneself to a specific category?
Or would only idealistic dreamers even fail to notice that we have become a completely compartmentalized society, where just like at the fruit stand everything is exactly measured, calibrated and doled out in known increments, whether it's our entertainment or whatever else? And that therefore DJs have to deliver a reliable amount of specificity in what they provide, rather than getting all adventurous and experimental.
I get it. That anything-goes approach worked well when it was dinky hole-in-the-wall parties with 2-bit promoters paying you $20 for cab fare, but now that it's a big deal and lots of money, it's become strictly business.... deliver a reliable product that meets quality standards on schedule, get paid.
I think that this streamlined, utilitarian and landscaped approach to any genre of music is (oh never mind) ..... it's just like everything else really. Forget it, carry on... sorry I erred.
