As i said, people laughed at me when i talked about the condos and the police crackdown years ago. No one saw any connection and thought i was nuts. And now the crackdown is accepted as fact.

Can't wait... was going to see him the Wednesday before in Detroit, but fuck that!

And, think I might skip the Luciano party the week before and do this one instead.

Anyways, I was at work and heard about this from people's statuses so I googled "Carl Cox November 11 2011" and found this...

Am I missing something?

We have not had parties on such a large scale outside of a nightclub like this since Miller rode into town on his broom (that quite frankly was lodged up his ass).

I credit this in part to the fact that the executive committee is no longer full of a bunch of no fun lefties. Also Adam Vaughan has been all but relegated to the dog house.

We shall see...

Give it a rest with the Miller-bashing, you tired, old hack - and get your facts straight, for once. The quashing of the rave scene in Toronto at the turn of the century happened because of Bill 73, the Ontario Raves Act. And while the bill was introduced by dunderhead Liberal MPP Sandra Pupatello, it was enacted by the Province, under your beloved PC party and its leader at the time, Mike Harris. Miller had nothing to do with it.

The last kick at the can for Miller was when he passed the harmonized bylaws that effectively zoned new nightclubs out of existence. That was about a year ago. Lets also talk about Vaughan and his past influence on the police board and the executive committee. The homeless shelter put in the middle of the entertainment district. Ask any club owner or party promoter and they will fill you in. Oh and the sidewalk tax they tried to put into place. Also thanks to miller, you can no longer advertise for nightclubs on the streets (i wish someone would challenge this illegal bylaw in the supreme court)

A.k.a., "I have no actual facts regarding my assertion that David Miller was responsible for the demise of large-scale parties outside of nightclubs (your words), so although I was initially talking about raves, I'm now going to conveniently forget that and move on to nightclubs and the entertainment district, in a lame-assed and utterly futile attempt to save face."

It soon turned out that the quick recovery was illusory, and by 1990, economic malaise had returned with the beginning of the Gulf War and the resulting 1990 spike in the price of oil, which increased inflation but to less of a degree as the oil crisis ten years earlier. Nevertheless, for the next several years high unemployment, massive government budgetary deficits, and slow Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth affected the United States until late 1992 and Canada until 1995.

We had a shite economy until '95 or so which matches what I was saying. Recession hits, warehouse parties come afterwards. Statistically speaking we've been recovering for awhile now so if warehouse parties start up again now it would be similar to what happened in the 90s...

Toronto's rave scene began (and many would say, peaked) in the early 90s, in the midst of the recession of that time. The abundance of warehouse spaces in the mid-90s was simply a natural carry-over from that economic downturn.

Its too bad you decide to get personal with your comments.

You are correct that the initial rave crackdown was from pupatello and her friends including fantino who spread lies and innuendo. But have a look at the city since 2003 and what has happened in the club district.

Having said that, you will now be the first person I have ever put on ignore on TA as I do not wish to continuously read insults when debating topics of interest. I don't mind debate, in fact I welcome it with open arms as I always have. Reading childish insults however, are a different matter

And if you look at the huge massives that used to happen in places like cinesphere, they were from 96-2001

The peak of the club and rave culture in toronto was in the late 90s.

I know it is hard for people who hate someone to give them SOME of the credit for doing something they like. But consider the fact that I have worked behind the scenes for years and seen these things directly for myself, I do know what I am talking about here. And yet again, time will prove me right. So no matter how many insults are thrown at me, I will stand by and come back in a few years and say "I told you so" when everyone else starts stating what I am now as fact just as has happened time and time again around here.

Your version of history as it unfolded is insulting.

Translated: Even though I continuously distort the truth to back my own admitted politicised agenda, I'm always right, and the myriad folk who consistently show me facts proving otherwise are wrong. I like saying "I told you so", because it bolsters that nagging, insecure feeling I have that the majority of the time, I may just be full of shit.

edit: fine, I take back the "tired and old" part.
