I would calculate that my existence equates to approximately 27 rotations of your sun, so obviously you have a better knowledge than me, however I am surprised you have not progressed beyond the stage of letting a profit-seeking organisation judge your musical interests by now.
If you class the 'underground' as Gareth Emery or Andy Moor, for example, then perhaps that is the problem. When I refer to DJ Mag having no influence then I am talking about the psytrance parties in the mountains of Portugal or the Swiss lakes, full moon celebrations in Thailand, warehouse raves where the likes of Paul van Dyk began careers and so on. Attendees do not do so because they read a review in DJ Mag, and they certainly wouldn't care what a flip-flop wearing London media graduate has to say about it either.
After a time here I shared similar feelings to those you express now, and my advice to you would be to take a serious break. Find something else to spend your time on, and one day you will stumble upon a new type of music which reignites your passion all over again. |
Haha, As I have said frequently on here, I dont let dj mag dictate my musical taste. Far from it. However, they do dicate the taste of many.
I took time out from trance and returned this year to find I wasnt particularly impressed and need to delve deeper into the underground to see what that is currently offering.

Above & Beyond that! It's really a perfect idea as Armin's reign of terror comes to a close. If we make it an event, he could drive his final set to a peak by sunset before handing it off to Guetta, as Armin, Jesus pose and all, is burned on a stack of surplus URB, DJ Mag, and Remix magazines; along with some old Ghostly International promotional material.
Furthermore, it will completely change the tenor of the DJ Mag pole as whoever obtained the number one spot would be sacrificed once they lost it in subsequent contests. The elimination of vote-whoring, alone, makes this a viable prospect. There will always be some narcissistic chump who thinks they can last forever at number one and while their petulance is amusing in the short term, they're not the sort you want hanging around the scene, all that long.
