I thought this thread was a joke. I guess I was wrong. Also, that "art is science" post is taking word "heart" too literally.

Anyways,

I want my dance music to be about dance. I want no "intelligent" and "soulful" pretensions in there. I just want music that is good to dance to and get lost into. I cannot explain how much I hate insistence that dance music should be listenable on its own. Fuck that shit. If you can't dance then don't bother with dance music and just go and listen to pop music. You have plenty of music genres for that, from classical to jazz to rock to ambient to New Age.

Uplifting trance, for one, is basically just modern New Age music accompanied by beats.

why are people criticizing my cute perky word soul or soulful?

See, it's like I made this really profound statement which is literally true because your heart is kind of in front of other organs and if you weren't "following" it, you'd have to be walking backwards or sideways or something. I hope everyone learned something, today.

I know I have!

LOL for posterity I quote.

You must worship a god to create soulful music?

well I don't mean to beat around the bush here, but I'm sure atheists can be spiritual. that doesn't mean they're religious, but I'm sure the first-rate atheistic producers psyche themselves up through some god they can see and touch. it could be a matter of some gay illegal psychedelic drug.

Yet we find ourselves on page 4 by the time you actually get to divulging your utterly fucked thesis, colored with racism, monotheism, and sexism. You're such a perverse little shit, Matt.

when you say it's a myth, are you implying that the notion of soul in music has been documented throughout the years? if it has, then I'm satisfied with this thread.
