Are you talking about losless files? Some digital retailers don't even offer them (Itunes) and most others charge ridiculous fees for lossless files (Beatport - and don't tell me about bandwith - it's cheap as fuck these days. They simply like to rip off all the bedroom DJs that think they have to buy WAV)

@Chimney The problem with high end audio equipment is that by the time you're rich enough to efford it, your hearing sucks enough to make the difference in quality negligible

Man, I don't have a lot of things in life. FLACs are my only pleasure. And Pepsi.

Not to mention people PM to send them FLACs lol

Is there a program that allows you to see if a Flac file is actually lossless quality?

I suppose you can load it into a spectrum analizer or DAW and judge by the waveform.

Adobe Audition, but it doesn't guarantee it's been correctly ripped - which is the biggest concern. If you are using foobar, you can download an extension which runs the track through AcurateRip database and compares the track with other versions of it being ripped. This doesn't always work (on singles) and on tracks bought off estores., obviously.

If you have a log, there are certain programs that scan it according to some quality standards.

eachelper.uphero.com/ <<--- I used to check with this. Seems down now though.

FLACs can be faked to death. It's possible to take any kbps and re-encode it as FLAC.

A CD should take 2-3 hours to RIP, if the program is set up correctly. I broke my burner after 5 rips due to the intensity.

Silly me.

f**k off there will never be a perfect app software for makin' perfect converted tracks, with excellent sound quality and the best possible size compression, no matter what input/output formats they will be.

For example I needed some time ago : which is the best (close) AAC 96 kbps equivalent for mp3 ? Is it 128kbps mp3, 160 kbps mp3, or maybe 320 kbps mp3? Is anyone able to help me?

Well, whatever... my opinion is: if someone wanna have excellent wav sound quality, well, spend some money for cd's/external drives HDD or another storage device and go for wav files...

or if someone considering mp3 320 kbps, for example, good enough for his ears , then go4it

I know there are people who will say that track sizes are an important point of view, and I know too there are much more experienced people than me in sound formats/compression, but this is just my opinion...
