Sure. I guess the difference is that I'm not offering an all in one solution, merely sharing what works for me. Which is why I offered the alternative that also works for me. But these, supposedly, are grown men, and when you make a comment about smoking cannabis for musical purposes and they act like you're on crack and LSD at the same time and about to land on the moon, it becomes a bit of a joke. obviously you're not at the age to be smoking cannabis, but trolling on comments about smoking weed to aide you in music is a joke. people use aides all the time, caffeine is a stronger and far more lethal drug than cannabis, and no one would have made a fool of themselves if I had mentioned that drug instead. it's just foolish and a waste of time.
The best advice I can offer you, is to take micro-breaks, and take the time you need and get relaxed while you research and learn, that's the most important part. Then just start watching videos and doing the actual research. It's kind of like building up. Don't just do a couple hours of research and then hop on your track. Listen to a bunch of old dance music while you do your reading, or after, but spend several days doing this. By the time you get back to making music you'll be so fresh and ready to go. Most of the time I take breaks, it's because I have no other choice. Either way, voluntary or not, I always spend the time on the forums, reading or watching videos, and it just feeds your brain and aides creativity. The longer you wait while you do research, the more eager your mind will become to create, and you will become more creative hopefully. Honestly, there are only a few fundamental things you *need* to learn, beyond that it's your ball game.

Thankyou very much for this advice

micro breaks won't help. You want to distance yourself, take a long break. A 5 minute down time will not do anything but help your mind rest which is fine, but as far as getting away from your current state of mind, 5 minutes is not going to do it. And 5 minutes is kinda too small. Take 10.
LIstening to music while you read is also pointless. Multi tasking is not your friend. Do one thing and do it well. Listen to music, fine, but listen. Read, fine , but read. Multitasking is a bad habit. Do 1 thing, do it well. You can't listen to 2 things at a time. Multi tasking for the most part is not multi tasking but in a way really what computers do. They jump from task to task appearing to be doing it at the same time. So concentrate on 1 thing.
Separate your producing into tasks that say every second day you make tracks, and the other days you do other stuff like mixing exercises or sound design. This will not only make your learning more organized, it will give you that time needed to distance yourself.
Also don't be afraid to put things on the back burner. Lets say during your producing day, you have 4 hours, 3 hours for a current track, 1 hour for an older track you are finishing. And i did mention this before but A/B. Have a track you really like, have yours. And make notes. Not in your head. write it down. Or type. Have some sort of record. What is different, make a note. Try to understand what is not happening , as the only way to remedy what you don't like is to figure out what is not happening with it.
And since you are 14, set a timer for the hours you spend masterbating. Anything over 30 minutes and ya, get that down to 15.

sure, it didn't work for me, it couldn't possibly work for him. what's up with your one-size-fits-all advice? i'm speaking from experience. by micro break i mean days, not 5 minutes. also, your mind might be wired differently, but i love to listen to music while i read. so stop dismissing people's advise for your own, like i said, i'm speaking from what worked for me. when did you become such an ordained, cock sucking know it all?

my advice is based on countless studies relating to how we learn and how we don't learn, discussions with countless experts , many in music but really in every single field except human relations i suppose, and my own experience in mastering well lets just say alot of things.
He asked how to distance himself from his current music ie state of mind. 5 minutes ? Really ? You honestly think a 5 minute break will do anything relating to the goal in mind ? That is enough time to go to the washroom. I never said my way was the only way. I will state that 5 minutes is not enough time to seperate one's self from their current state of mind. Unless you are a fucking ninja monk.
And i will speak out against bad advice. Advice that has been proven to be not only useless but actually damaging in that you learn long term bad habits. So ya, you say bullshit. I would be a ass not to point out when someone is laying on the manure. |
you produced the 5 minute figure, not me. I said micro break, then I went into more detail, but from the way I read what I wrote, I never said anything about 5 minute breaks will help you. that's just for minor ear fatigue, which will quickly come back. a micro break to me is 2-5 days. i produce daily. if i take a break that's just a couple days, it's a micro break. sorry for not being so explicit as to prevent you entirely from putting words in my mouth. next time i'll write 5 paragraphs.
